Volunteer Spotlight

Romel Novak
Romel has been an integral part of Neat Repeats since August of 2002. She volunteers on
Wednesday during the day which gives her time to volunteer for an Orland Park Special
Recreation Bowling program on the same day. Romel also volunteers at Orland Park Township Health Services. She resides in Orland Park and has 2 daughters in the area. Romel does her own gardening, including mowing the lawn. Although her active lifestyle keeps her busy she finds time to watch Jeopardy. The twinkle in her eyes and her love of a good joke make her fun to work with.
We asked Romel to share some of the day-to-day details of her life, such as:
Q: Name three things we would find in your refrigerator.
A: I’m pretty basic so you’ll always find eggs, butter and milk!
Q: Do you have a favorite cuisine?
A: I love pasta. Give me a good bowl of spaghetti anytime.
Q: What is the biggest collection of anything in your home?
A: Clowns! I have 2 shelves of figurines, about 50 of them. My husband gave most of them to me.
Q: Most embarrassing thing in your home that you hide when guests come over?
A: Nada!!! Nothing in my house embarrasses me.
Q: If we came to visit unexpectedly, would we find your bed made or unmade?
A: Most definitely made.
Q: What currently needs to be fixed or repaired in your house however you haven’t got around to it yet?
A: A torn piece of loose wallpaper. I need to buy paste.
Q: What high tech gadget could you live without?
A: My T.V. I seldom watch it.
Q: What is your favorite household chore?
A: Washing clothes…it’s easy and I feel very organized when it’s done.
Q: Biggest surprise we’d find in your closet?
A: Clothes, my closet is packed with clothes, for some reason I can’t stop buying them and volunteering at Neat Repeats adds to the situation.
Q: One thing that you have in your house from your childhood.
A: My pictures. I keep them all in photo albums.
Q: What do you like to do most with your leisure time?
A: Read! I love a good mystery. My favorite author is Mary Higgins Clark.
Q: What is the best bargain that you ever purchased at Neat repeats?
A: All the little jackets I find on the $1.00 rack!
Q: What do you find most pleasurable about the time you spend at Neat Repeats?
A: The people of course! I enjoy working with the other volunteers, who else would I have to tell my jokes to?
We hope you enjoyed learning a little more about Romel. When you see her make sure to say hello! You’ll always find her with a pleasant smile.
