| | 250 people crowded the Palos Country Club for the String of Pearls Gala on Saturday January 31st. Board, staff and friends came out to celebrate the Crisis Center for South Suburbia’s 30th Anniversary and to recognize Phil Kadner, reporter for the Southtown Star and Kathleen A. Mahoney, prominent Tinley resident, Crisis Center Board member, and Senior Vice President of Founders Bank, who both received the Dianne Master’s Award at the event. Retiring Board member, Roberta Noonan, Ph.D., was also recognized for nearly 20 years of service. Andy Avalos, weather anchor for NBC5 Chicago, was the Master of Ceremonies for the gala. The evening featured silent and live auctions, cash raffle and dancing music by the Moraine Valley Jazz Ensemble. Over 30 high school students representing Carl Sandburg, Marion Catholic, Andrew and Lincoln Way East high schools volunteered for the auctions. The gala raised over $75,000 in support of the Crisis Center’s mission to provide emergency shelter and essential services for victims of domestic violence. Crisis Center Board member Therese Dubelbeis and husband Tom of Orland supported the gala. |
