| | Comcast employees gave up their day off on Saturday,
April 25, to give the Crisis Center for South Suburbia’s Emergency Shelter a new face, covering the interior and exterior areas of the facility. According to Marvell Turnago, Regional Human Resources Manager, a total of 100 Comcast staff members from five stores in the Chicago metropolitan area and one from Merriville, Indiana volunteered to put a new face on the shelter. The fleet of workers performed such tasks as painting, landscaping, gardening, general decorating and deep cleaning. Comcast employees also ran a clothing drive for the shelter’s residents, headed by Jennifer Hernandez (Orland resident) and Jocelyn Sobitz. They were happy to deliver over 25 bags of clothes. Project leaders Brigitte Brownlee and Jennifer Englebrook, both from the O’Hare office, provided direction to the workers. Home Depot provided discounted rates on supplies. Dominick’s Food Stores and Subway helped provide meals for the group.
The project at the Crisis Center for South Suburbia’s shelter was one of hundreds held across the country on Saturday, April 25 for Comcast Spotlight, an employee volunteer project which lends a helping hand for agencies which assist those in need.
