Did You Know?
Every 9 seconds a woman is beaten.
In Illinois, more than 300,000 women are abused each year.
More women are injured by domestic violence than are injured in auto accidents, muggings, or rape combined.
40% of female homicides occur as a result of domestic violence.
57% of all homeless women and children are victims of domestic violence.
97% of those reporting domestic violence are women.
60% of battered women report that their first abusive relationship began in high school.
36% of high school relationships involve some type of violence.
One in five teenage girls report to have suffered physical and/or sexual violence at the hands of a dating partner.

 

 

Crisis Center services in FY07 included:
  • 26,000 hours of service to 2,254 women and children
  • 12,864 nights of shelter to 361 women and children
  • 2,785 hours of counseling for 505 individuals living in the community
  • 9,000 hours of court advocacy to 1,408 victims of domestic violence
  • answered 3,888 calls answered for crisis intervention, information, and referrals
  • 101 Fresh Start presentations for 3,766 young people
  • 12,000 community members participated in presentations throughout Chicago southland
  • 3,331 days of transitional housing services
  • received 36,000 bags of donations at Neat Repeats stores
  • 227 volunteers provided over 33,000 volunteer hours
